So my sister was telling me to put down my phone while eating and I immediately responded with ‘that is funny coming from you…’
Now my sister is almost always with her phone but usually she drops it when she is eating because she has great discipline… although there are times I have caught her checking her phone this is the exception not the rule.
But this is besides the point because my second thought was “this is good advice irrespective of if she follows it or not”
Which got me thinking, why are we so defensive of constructive and good criticisms…
… it is probably an ego thing but I assume this is not a trait the world’s leaders follow…
Most high achievers and successful people are always asking what can I improve, what did I do wrong, what can I do better…
Self-reflection and revision is a trait of success in itself.
Which is why I am thankful for my second thought… we must learn to live beyond our instincts.
So I will apologise to my sister and pay attention to the good advice that we refuse to hear…
Stop being so defensive, stop taki ng things personally… just be open and learn… them choice how you will a t and not react.
Ironically my reading for today in my 365 days of Bible passages is:
“Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowances for each other’s faults because of love. Try always to be led along altogether by the Holy Spirit and so be at peace with one another.”Ephesians 4: 2-3
That is why the Bible is so powerful it speaks to you anew every time you read it, but find wisdom wherever… I trust God to find you, where you’re at.
So my challenge to you today is to accept correction, from wherever it comes as long as it makes you better than you were yesterday… forget about hypocrisy or justification… that is just misguided pride.
